In addition to non-fiction writing, I take on a select number of ghostwriting, copywriting and editing projects each year.
Some years back, whilst working with charities and UN agencies in Africa, I found myself becoming increasingly frustrated by the language they used to communicate critical information. Sentences were unnecessarily long. Writers chose complex words when simple ones would do. And their language frequently undermined their messages. The experience motivated me to advocate for better writing, and to show that clear, simple language is invariably the most effective. That said, I still enjoy the odd long word when it feels right.
As a writer and a linguist, I love the challenge of finding the right word. My goal is to help clients show off their personality and improve their legitimacy and authority through language. I offer writing and editing services, and also writer training – so that, in future, editors will breeze through your reports, website copy and press releases, rather than curse at your prose.
As a writer with particular experience in deep research, delving into personal stories and perspectives, building characters and constructing narratives, I have a strong instinct for what makes a compelling read. I am also a meticulous editor with the ability to pick up new subject areas quickly.
